Mind-Full Set Day! - 7 tips for how to prepare for a full day of full sets

I know we're all dying to get our hands reunited with their beloved tweezers, but there's one more thing you should do before that love affair begins...

Create a Mind-Full Set day schedule! See what I did there?

It's exciting times to be back to work soon, but without properly preparing ourselves for the long work days ahead, we will burn out pretty quickly! As we know the energy that goes into a full set IS REAL! Here a few things you should make a priority during your day:

1. Schedule Breaks

The new norm is going to be quite different from what we are used to, not only do we need extra time between our appointments to properly sanitize and fulfil our duties to comply with our new safety protocols, but you are going to need that break for yourself as well! Any lash artist knows a full set takes more time which in turn means more energy put into the appointment. It really takes a lot out of you! Make sure you're properly scheduling adequate breaks between your clients so you can stay sane and relax.

2. Stretches

As you just read above, you now have more time for yourself between clients, let's use it wisely! Stretching is an excellent way to keep your body flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight which results in poor form and injury.

Injury = Less clients = Less income

Here are a few stretches I like to do before and after a client...

3. Snacks

You don't have to tell me twice! Healthy snacks during the day help reduce stress, improve focus and productivity. They can give you an extra boost of energy that us as lash artists really need during a long day of full sets!

Here's a yummy recipe for Energy Balls. Simple to make and the 1 size bite makes for a quick snack between clients...

4. Stay hydrated

Water helps maximize physical performance, plain and simple. Without it performance becomes more difficult and you become tired quickly. Hydration has been shown to prevent this from happening, and even reduces the oxidative stress that occurs during exercise/ performance. Your body is strongly influenced by hydration status, mild dehydration can impair mood, memory and brain performance. So drink up! Make sure you're staying adequately hydrated during the day by drinking 2-3L of water.

5. Meditate

I hope I didn't lose you here. You don't need to be a part time yogi during the day but take a few minutes between your clients to sit and just breathe! Meditating can reduce performance anxiety in as little as 15 minutes. The deep breathing and mindfulness helps calm down the body's natural defences and reduce anxiety.

Take 15 minutes at some point of your day to close your eyes and just breathe!

6. Good nights sleep

I know this one may be obvious, but you'd be surprised how many people do not get their 8 hours of sleep in a night. When you don't get enough sleep, your body starts to perform poorly and more mistakes are made. Sleep has a positive effect on speed, accuracy, and reaction time which is essential for lash artists! So make sure you make your comfy bed a priority and get those Zzz's in before a long day ahead.

7. Ask clients to fill out forms ahead of time online

During times like this we are going to experience a "new norm" and one of the those things you should start implementing is online forms. Your day is going to be a full one, and you need any little bit of spare time on your hands. So consider having your clients fill out their forms online to save time! It will also be safer for you as you can include health questions you need to know ahead of their appointment. You can include a symptoms check test to know if they are ok to come in for their appointment or not. You don't want to find out then and there if they've had a cough or have travelled within 14 days.
